Secondary factors

I'm am so happy that the MRI shows no sign of cancer. It has been a difficult two weeks though. There are secondary factors that have caused crisis. As Brian's wife, I've seen Brian suffer more than I've seen him yet. This is a sensitive subject to write about, especially because it's confusing and difficult to understand. I’m talking about steroid psychosis, delirium, being altered, mental breakdowns--losing touch with reality. If you’ve talked to him on the phone lately or if you’ve been around him in person, you may have noticed quick speaking, a stronger tone of voice, or odd comments. I know he is embarrassed about what has been going on lately. He has been such a trooper. We don't know what is causing the delirium. Radiation/chemo, steroids (to help with the previous episode of hydrocephalus/swelling from radiation), sleeping pills (that haven't worked), and little sleep are possible factors.

We are in the hospital waiting to hear the next step. We have been in the process of developing a plan to “detoxify” the steroids, sleeping medicine, and lots of other meds from his body. He may have to take additional med to help with the delirium. After he is able to sleep 7+ hours a night, and after the steroids loosen their affect on Brian (the tapering process is approx a month long) we will hopefully see Brian’s normal amazing self. After this is over, returning home and living a healthy lifestyle to continue to reach healing of cancer sounds good. That's my hope.

Thank you everyone for being there for us right now.

Love,
Katie

Brian & Katie-
We are encouraged that the latest MRI was clear and pray that the toxins in Brian's body are removed. We think about you often and are glad to have crossed paths with you at K. Hold on to hope as He is always with us.
Love, Nate and Deb
