So the cancer relapsed right before the wedding just a few short months after completing the bone-morrow transplant (bmt). I started the blog then. That was really sad for us because the bmt was really hard on the body and we had put a lot of hope it as a cure - too much hope. So we tried what worked in the past when it came back in May. Things were on track for another remission last month(still the same relapse). That would be when we would have completed the chemotherapy.
The week before the final trip for chemo I had a lot of head and back pain. My ears were ringing more that they normally do so I was convinced that something was really wrong. I asked for an MRI to check-out my head in case it was nothing. Well it was something.
The MRI revealed that there was a lot of swelling in my ventricles - tunnels and spaces in the brain where the brain fluid flows. The idea is that there are so many dead and alive cancer cells in my brain that my brain is clogged like a dirty sponge. The other concern is the area of the brain called the - get this: aqueduct! I love it! According to the mri there was spot of cells that may have been blocking the flow a little bit too.
Screenings are so important! Do more than you need for peace of mind.
This began a whole new phase of battling this cancer. The fact the cancer returned while being treated with chemotherapy likely means more chemo won't work. So, the next step:
RADIATION - rtx
I had 19 doses of radiation starting on the day of the MRI. We just completed radiation a week ago! Health is returning. My MRI last week showed NO EVIDENCE OF CANCER!
Relief!
Yes!
Celebrate!
